Mapoteng Council is situated in rural area called Mapoteng in the district of Berea.

Mapoteng council has the gender action plan that was partially implemented. There are 15 councillors; 10 men and five women. The chairperson and deputy of the council are both men, but within the three committees that council has two are chaired by women.

During the public gatherings Youth, people with the disability (PWD) and women participate equally and are part of any decisions taken.

The council uses national policy in terms of maternity where allows women are given three months paid maternity leave and three months of nursing hours after returning back from maternity leave. The council does not have its own sexual harassment policy but cases are reported at the police station. The council has disability user friendly building and it is accessible for everybody.

In terms of local economic both men, women and PWD and youth have equal access and the council has provided with the market stalls and about 50% women, 20% youth and 10% PWD benefited.

The council is working with Caritas Lesotho, ADRA, and PSI in fight for climate change; where people are working on donga rehabilitation and tree planting. Also the council has the waste management project where almost 100% women are benefiting.

There are also six committees in different villages where both women and men are working on water and sanitation and 10 hand pumps had been maintained.
