The above titled article explains on proposition made to the Law Reform Commission to consider the transmission of the HIV virus on purpose to another person as a crime punished by the law.

Since HIV Aids is an issue affecting both men and women, this article appears at a missed opportunity since it does not include the voice of women at all in the law reform. HIV Aids is a growing concern in Mauritius and had been traditionally attributed to female prostitutes and drug addicts since long. However, this article is a big missed opportunity since it could have elaborated more on the driving reasons to consider the reform making voluntary transmission of HIV Aids as a criminal act.

Moreover, the article talks about rape still no women voice is heard despite that the large majority of victims are female. The article could have been an interesting and informative one if it had considered the testimonials of people in regards to the reform proposed. Here only one male judge is interviewed to have his personal opinion and this again shows the power and position of men in decision making and decision taking.
