ROADMAP TO EQUALITY: DVD ON THE SOUTHERN AFRICA PROTOCOL ON GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT

The Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance produced the Roadmap to Equality DVD to provide a visual documentation of the campaign process leading up to the final adoption of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development in August 2008. Available for online licensing in the following formats: HD,MP4,MOV and FLV.

Reflecting and re-strategising for gender based regional integration: the SADC plan of action for gender was reviewed in 2005 to capture concerns such as the upliftment of the poorest of the poor, rural women and the girl child. SADC also faces increasing poverty and increasing gender based violence and challenges such as HIV. Member states and development partners contributed to the development of a strategic implementation framework.

Soon after holding a village workshop about the SADC Gender Protocol, I realized we are actually helping the government deliver on the promises it made by signing the Protocol. The targets of the Protocol are relevant. Even though I am still learning about the Protocol, and what needs to be done to achieve its targets, I can see that it speaks to the needs of the people, and how they can be assisted.
