On 15 January 2017 Gender Links announced the Saeanna Chingamuka Internship programme of the Gender and Media Diversity Centre during a memorial ceremony after the untimely passing away of the founding manager of the centre on 24 December 2016.
Chingamuka earned a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree at Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. She began her career in Zimbabwe at the Southern Africa Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC) before moving to South Africa to pursue her studies at Rhodes University where she earned a Master of Arts degree in media studies. She joined Gender Links in 2008 as the Gender and Media Diversity Centre coordinator, later rising to manager and editor of GL’s Opinion and Commentary Service.
As the GMDC manager, Chingamuka managed the Gender Links Internship programme which to date has produced a number of young leaders across globe. (please link to the internship chapter of GL@15 as well as recent annual reports).
Saeanna shared her exuberant enthusiasm, her passion for learning and her expertise in media and current affairs with her interns and work colleagues.
