Director of Programmes

Before joining Gender Links as the Regional Programmes Director, Magdeline Madibela established and worked for UN Women Botswana (PP) since 2016. Magdeline worked at the SADC Secretariat as Head of Gender Unit from 2005-2014. During that time, she led the process of the development of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, and the SADC Gender Policy among other important gender milestones in the SADC region.  Other roles that Magdeline held include serving as a Gender Advisor for the Southern Africa Trade Hub, USAID in 2014. Magdeline started her career with Ministry of Health and YWCA as a Programme Officer for Youth and Gender Programmes.

Over the years Magdeline has provided leadership and technical advisory on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues to Governments, UN, RECS, Development Partners and Civil Society across the region. She has been part of the historic international gender equality and women’s empowerment milestones such as the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women and the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). She possesses a Master’s degree in Social Policy and Administration with specialisation on Gender Studies from The University of Nottingham, UK (1998).
