Ruth Butaumocho is the Managing Editor of The Herald, the biggest daily newspaper in the Herald. She has 25 years media experience.

She is the current Vice Chairperson of the Media Institute of  Southern Africa- MISA ( Zimbabwe Chapter), a position that enables her to interact widely with journalists from various media houses. MISA is an umbrella organisation representing MISA national chapters in the SADC region. The organisation defends and promotes media freedom, freedom of expression and access to information. As the Vice chairperson, she is responsible for mainstreaming gender in all the programmes done by MISA across.

A holder of a Masters in International Relations,  and a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies, Ruth is passionate about the growth of women in whatever sector and she believes the media has a role to play in empowering women.

Ruth is gender and media trainer with 10 years of experience, working with local and regional gender and rights based organisations. She is also the gender focal person in the Zimpapers Group, which houses her media organisation, The Herald.

Both a British  Council Leadership Programme and a Women In News, alumni, Ruth is involved in many local community based organisations where she works with local leadership to support resource centres and women living with HIV and AIDS.
