
Training and Services Manager
Debbie works at promoting and developing alternate resources for Gender Links in order to secure the work of GL at a programme level and into the future. Debbie has many years of experience both in management and in fundraising. She is currently a council member for the Southern African Institute of Fundraisers, which aims to promote ethical norms and fund raising as a career. Debbie has worked in the field of counselling, specifically in selecting, training and mentoring first responders at 8 Rape Crisis sites in KZN and at the Edendale Thuthuzela Care Centre. She has more than 20 years’ experience in trauma and suicide response and training. Debbie was an AIDS activist in the 1980’s. As LifeLine PMB director she contracted by DOH to start the KZN (later to become the National) toll free AIDS hotline running a Zulu/English 24/7 service. She has worked for a variety of organisations and partnered with local authorities raising funds, providing good governance advice and project management. Debbie has strong ethics speaking out against social injustice and unfairness. She hold a Masters in Philosophy from Stellenbosch University. Her dissertation focused on resilience in teenagers in an HIV/Aids setting.
