Mauritius Senior Programme and Finance Officer
safehaven@genderlinks.org.za
For the past 5 years, I have worked in Gender Links Safe Haven Halfway Home as House Coordinator and House Manager respectively.
It is undeniable that violence impacts one’s life at different levels and boosting their self-esteem through personal and professional development training is one of the immediate solutions in improving the lives of vulnerable women and children. Having worked in the non-governmental sector for the past 6 years has helped me understand the needs and limitations of the marginalized group in our society.
My hands-on experience in working with women and children on various projects of Gender Links
including, the Safe Haven Halfway Home project and Entrepreneurship, have enhanced my capacity to
assist with providing medium- and long-term solutions in improving the lives of the beneficiaries.
I have participated and assisted in the delivery of several entrepreneurship courses delivered by Anushka Virahsawmy which aimed at empowering women survivors of violence. The training sessions which I delivered includes: –
- Safety and Security training for residents of Safe Haven Halfway Home from 2019 – 2021
- Grooming and personal hygiene training for residents of Safe Haven Halfway Home from 2019 –
2021 - Economic Empowerment training (Entrepreneurship) with women and youth including survivors of violence across different regions in Mauritius from 2021 to present
- Gender Based Violence at the Civil Service College in 2021
- Gender Mainstreaming training at the Civil Service College in 2022
- Economic empowerment training in Rodrigues from 2023 to present
- ASRHR Bootcamp with 50+ children in Rodrigues in 2023
I am now serving as Programme and Finance Officer and committed to live the vision and mission of Gender Links.
