Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Mauritius

Mrinal (Nelly) has a degree in Sociology with Applied Criminology from Bournemouth University, UK. Nelly joined as an intern in 2020 during the Covid pandemic and applied for the post of house assistant and later occupied for the post of House coordinator. Nelly developed the Case Management Model for residents of Safe Haven Halfway Home, and it was a great opportunity to learn, grow and develop on a personal and professional level as well. Nelly is currently the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Gender Links Mauritius.

After the completion of Higher School Certificate, Nelly has been working with children aged 9-11 in an Afterschool Programme by the Mauritius Sport’s Council in different school of Mauritius. Many of those children have family issues and there were many factors influencing their educational achievement and Gender Based Violence was one of the prime factors affecting the lives of those children and that of their families.  This was a great eye opener as a youngster, and this aroused my interest to know more about how violence is being tackled on a national and international level. Nelly has simultaneously worked and studied at Bournemouth University and was a Peer Assisted Learning Leader for 2 consecutive years. The experience and exposure have helped in developing good communication and leadership skills.

Joining Gender Links has helped her discover more about different societal issues, help in the formulation of strategies, framework, application of project grants for sustaining the different ongoing projects of Gender Links Mauritius and develop her capacity to work on her own initiative as well as being a good team player. The exposure at Safe Haven has helped Nelly develop her emotional intelligence, soft-skills, be solution-oriented and adopt proper planning to work better as a team.
