Hlatikulu is one of the oldest towns in the Shiselweni district. The town itself was established in 1994 and it enjoys a mature canopy of trees gracing the streets and parks, and the quiet family-oriented neighbourhoods. There is no definite architecture of the existing homes and structures and no articulated municipal services and facilities, but there is a thriving commercial area that is centralized with convenient access to down town Hlatikulu and environs, and the public transportation contributes to the towns desire ability. As a town Hlatikulu has an approximate of 2020 people (as per the 2007 censors). Despite it being small Hlatikhulu is part of the closely-knit collection of towns the Shiselweni district and its environs that make up the greater Hlatikulu urban area. As such the town is facing increasing traffic on its residential streets and development pressure from surrounding areas. Furthermore Hlatikulu is confronting a number of planning challenges. Principal to these challenges are a major long term town planning scheme and an eventual infrastructure programme, a focus on sustainable development and a need to provide all municipal facilities. | ||||||||||||||
