The Alliance finished the year on high gear. This follows the programme being recognised as one of the programmes making a difference in the lives of African citizens. In October the Alliance was awarded a finalist Drivers of Change award based on the work around the SADC Gender Protocol. This November One Africa announced the Alliance as semi-finalist on the continental award. A total of 254 applications poured in from 33 different countries across the continent for this award.
The Alliance fared impressively in not only one, but all five of the core criteria points that were evaluated for the Award. The criteria are:
– Innovation – The extent to which the organisation has designed and implemented an innovative advocacy program that employs entrepreneurial and sustainable approaches to impact in a given sector(s).
– Results – The ability to demonstrate and communicate specific indicators of progress and impact linking work to a given sector(s) in a clear results-oriented framework.
– Scalability – The demonstration of the ability to replicate efforts of the organisation to take intervention to scale.
– Accountability – The demonstration of strong internal and constituency accountability mechanisms (i.e. community leadership consultations and involvement in programs to demonstrate the interventions are relevant to the majority of the poor in the target community and empowers them in a sustainable way) along with transparency of operations.
– Partnerships – The extent to which the organisation has employed creative partnerships to achieve its goal(s) and ensure coordination with other development actors. These partnerships may include public and/or private sector players
