Alliance update

The Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance will hold its annual meeting from 10-11 August 2011, ahead of the SADC Heads of State Summit scheduled for 17 August in Luanda. The meeting takes place in Johannesburg at a time that the country will be celebrating women’s month and it will bring together key members of the Alliance. These include the steering committee and strategic partners such as faith-based organisations, media practitioners and development partners. Six Alliance activities will take place during this period:

  • A regional Governance cluster meeting scheduled for 4 August 2011 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
  • Re-launch of the 50/50 campaign scheduled for 5 August 2011 in Harare, Zimbabwe, along with celebrating two partner organisations, Women in Politics Support Unit (WiPSU) & Gender Links’ (GL) tenth birthdays.
  • Alliance annual meeting attended by the steering committee will take place from 11- 12 August 2011 along with GL’s launch of the Cottages and women’s month celebration.
  • Launches of the regional 2011 SADC Gender Protocol Barometer in Zimbabwe (5 August); South Africa (11 August) and Angola (14 August).
  • Alliance theme cluster leaders will participate in the 7th Civil Society Forum convened by the SADC Council of Non-Governmental Organisations (SADC-CNGO) in Luanda, Angola from 13-14 August.
  • Gender Links, in partnership with the Economic Justice Cluster, will hold a Business Unusual workshop for journalists on gender and economic reporting from 11-14 August.
