Beitbridge Municipality COE

Beitbridge Municipality has a gender policy that drives the council’s gender activities. The council was rated the most resourceful urban council at the 2021 regional SADC Protocol@Work summit. The council anchors the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government for Matebeleland South province urban councils. Beitbridge Municipality has a budget for responding to COVID19 and is currently raising awareness of the virus in the community. Read the council 2016 case study here. Beitbridge is situated in Matebeleland South province. This is the town that borders Zimbabwe and South Africa. It experiences a high level of migration. Beitbridge border post is one of the busiest borders in Southern Africa. The council launched a “Go Green, Go Clean” campaign in a bid for a sustainable clean town. The council has experienced tremendous growth in learning and mainstreaming gender from the onset of its interactions with Gender Links through the Local Government COE process. The council has attained the status of Municipality.
