Epworth is located about twelve kilometres from the Harare city centre. It is a high-density dormitory town administered by the Epworth Local Board. It is bisected by a stream into two parts. The Balancing Rocks found in the northern approaches of the town are a famous attraction.

The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentored by Harare City Council. The council has a gender committee that steers gender activities. Epworth has a draft gender policy in place. The council also works with junior councillors who are involved in various activities including sexual reproductive health and rights campaigns. Epworth Local Board received an award for being the most improved local authority in the gender mainstreaming programme at the 2020 local government summit.
