Situated in the Midlands Province. Gokwe Town Council is synonymously known for being one of the fast-improving towns. With a little over 24 000 inhabitants, it is one of the few local authorities who are headed by a female Town Secretary. The council anchored the  Hub Councils in the Midlands province in 2020. The council has developed a gender policy. Some of the gender mainstreaming activities the council is undertaking include a health club which is responsible for waste management and recycling in the town. The council attained the silver rating in the 2020 SADCProtocol@Work summit.

The council is now a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government, having anchored the programme as a hub in 2020. The council is being mentored by Gweru City Council in this programme.
