City of Gweru, the City of Progress, is situated at the heart of Zimbabwe with a road and rail network that links it with all other major towns in the country. Gweru City Council is a hub council under the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentoring Midlands province urban councils (Kwekwe City Council and Gokwe Town Council). The council is reviewing its policies to ensure that gender is mainstreamed in these. These include the housing, gender and sexual harassment policies. The council attained the Silver rating at the 2020 SADCProtocol@Work summit.
