Kariba is situated in the Zambezi Valley in the Mashonaland West Province of Zimbabwe near the Zambian border. The town developed as a result of the construction of the Kariba dam wall and Hydro Electricity Power Station. The town is a resort and its economy is dependent on the lake with fishing, tourism, crocodile farming and electricity generation as the main economic activities. The council is a spoke in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentored by Chinhoyi Municipality.
