Mbire district is located in the Zambezi valley approximately 200km north of Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital. Mbire is home to some of the country’s best-kept tourism and heritage secrets. It boasts of vast tracts of land facing the mighty Zambezi river water front at kanyemba. This is also the boarder separating Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.

The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentored by Bindura RDC.

Mbire Rural District Council established a Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) market in partnership with the Ministry of Gender. The council is supporting marginalized communities like the Doma people with vocational training skills. The council also partnered with Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) to encourage young girls to go to school by providing them with bicycles for use to and from school. This also curbs gender-based violence. The council participated at its first local government SADC Protocol@Work summit in 2020.
