Plumtree Town sits on the western side of Zimbabwe in Matabeleland South Province, 100km southwest the city of Bulawayo and 10km from the Zimbabwe- Botswana border. It is the economic hub for Bulilima and Mangwe districts. The council has a dedicated website.

The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government. The council is mentored by Beitbridge Municipality.

The council conducts awareness campaigns on various service issues including COVID19. The council participated at  their first ever local government SADC Protocol@Work summit in 2020.
