This council is known for the man-made upper Umguza and Lower Umguza Dams. The council is also known for its natural wildlife conservancies. Umguza Rural District Council is a Hub council for Matebeleland North and South rural councils in the Hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government.
