A caucus meeting was held in Maputo 18 March 2011 at the Cardoso Hotel. The meeting was jointly organised by the current GEMSA Moz, Mozambique Alliance Focal Point and Gender Links Lusophone office.

The purpose of the meeting was primarily to bring together civil society organisations that work on gender development issues and to make the linkages with the SADC Gender Protocol which Mozambique and signed and ratified; as a way of holding government accountable to the cause.

The meeting was strategic in facilitating debate and creating collaboration amongst the different stakeholders, including the men’s sector in Maputo, to take the forward the work of the Alliance.

The participants were keen to converge into a strong national network. The meeting resolved that a consultative meeting be held to formalise a national structure and appointment a lead organisation to coordinate the mandate of the Alliance at national level. Participants were drawn from media, gender based violence organisations, law, environments, health, education and men’s sector.
