The Executive Director of the Women’s Action for Development (WAD), Veronica De Klerk, wants Parliament to consider amending the Electoral Act to ensure that all party lists for the National Assembly elections are gender balanced.
This, she opines, is meant to achieve gender balance in the National Assembly, where women’s representation currently stands at 25 percent below the 50/50 target expected by 2015.
Speaking at the launch of a new project called ‘My rights as a woman and Namibian citizen’ De Klerk added “The Act should further ensure that the names of women and male candidates alternate, by also using the ‘Zebra crossing’ pattern on the lists.” Click here to read more.
