Gender Links, (GL) and the African Woman and Child Feature Service (AWCFS) will work with a group of journalists from East and Southern Africa to produce a series of gender aware articles on climate justice during the United Nations 17th Conference of the Parties in Durban. Linked to this the organisations will provide platforms for robust debates on gender and climate change as well as produce radio content on how communities are adapting to climate change pressures. These articles will be featured in an e-newspaper and distributed through mainstream media channels.

This project complements the Gender Links Centres of Excellence for Gender in the Media project that aims to work with 100 media houses on a gender mainstreaming package between 2011 and 2014. This will also provide a springboard for a civil society campaign for an Addendum or amendments to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Protocol on Gender and Development on Gender, Climate Change and Sustainable Development as an important building block for further lobbying and advocacy.

Stories will be posted on Facebook and Twitter and hopefully be featured on the official COP 17 official website. The initiative aims to equip journalists with knowledge and understanding of climate change issues as well as to report the issue from a gender perspective.
