Ratification: status and updates

Article 40 on Ratification states that “This Protocol shall be ratified by the Signatory States in accordance with their constitutional procedures.”

Angola
Tanzania

Countries that are at advanced stages of ratification
DRC
South Africa

Countries that have not made significant progress towards ratification
Madagascar
Malawi
Swaziland
Zambia

Countries that have not signed
Botswana
Mauritius

Article 41 on Entry into Force states that “This protocol shall enter into force thirty (30) days after the deposit of the Instruments of Ratification by two-thirds of the Member States.”

This implies that at least ten (10) countries have to ratify the Protocol for it to come into force. We need three more countries to ratify !!!!!!!!

Implementation, monitoring and evaluation
Member States are expected to submit their first reports to the Executive Secretary of SADC indicating the progress achieved in the implementation of the measure agreed to in the Gender and Development Protocol. The Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance plans to make data from the SADC Gender Protocol Barometer available on its website in data base format in 2011.
