Regional: Alliance popularised the Addendum on gender and climate change – in the build-up to the SADC Summit

Building on the campaign begun for an Addendum to the SADC Gender Protocol on Gender and Climate Change the Alliance network undertook to publicise the campaign with the rest of civil society groupings during the Civil Society Forum. The Alliance achieved this through bringing it up as a concern in the plenary session as one of the key demands from a gender perspective in both the plenary and the communique to the Heads of States.

More than 100 civil society representatives attending the forum signed the wall sign-up sheet presented by the Alliance in solidarity with the campaign. Building on the momentum, the Mozambique Alliance Network will started groundwork to sensitise government officials, civil society and the mediaabout the Addendum.

Forum Mulher has been tasked to lead the process by beginning with paying a courtesy call on the Minister of Environment to hand in the petition with over 651 signatures and a signup sheet with close to 100 signatures to demand that the Addendum is adopted.

Networks are encouraged to begin to approaching key government ministries that is, the Gender ministries, Ministries of Justice, Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Ministries of Environment and Sustainable Development for buy in.
