The Alliance welcomes the opportunity to be part of the technical team for the review of the SADC Gender Protocol. This tripartite arrangement involves UN Women, the SADC Gender Unit and the SADC Member States. This is once again an opportunity to demonstrate civil society collaboration to take the region forward in terms of gender equality and development. We welcome your feedback on how you would like the Protocol strengthened. The upcoming task force meeting to be held in Johannesburg to review the SADC Gender Protocol is a game changer in creating accountable, gender responsive institutions in the SADC region. The meeting is once again an opportunity for civil society to work together with governments in strengthening development frameworks in a gender responsive manner. The SADC Gender Protocol Alliance will build onto more than two years of work of strengthening gender equality targets and developing indicators to measure those targets. Most of the Alliance networks are participating at the meeting as part of country delegations.
