South Africa: CGE launches report on the 365 Days Action plan

The Commission on Gender Equality launched a report, which reflects on progress on implementation of the 365 Days action plan of 2007 – 2011. The main message during the campaign is Say no to gender based violence – turn 16 days into 365 Days. The CGE held the launch on 23 November 2012 just ahead of the launch of the Sixteen days of activism campaign.

The objectives of the study were to determine the extent to which the 365 days campaign has been implemented since inception, identify key constraints and gaps in the implementation of the NAP as well as establishing the effectiveness of the programmes in place.

Government has created an enabling environment to deal with gender-based violence against women and children in South Africa, through the enactment of specific legislation and the development of policy framework programmes.

Although stakeholders costed the 365 Days NAP, no funds were allocated to implement the plan.
