The Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance will participate in the 7th Civil Society Forum slated for 8-9 August 2011 in Johannesburg with a smaller caucus meeting in Luanda on 13 August, ahead of the SADC Heads of State Summit. The Forum will be held under the theme: “Social Economic Justice for Poverty Eradication and Development”.
Alliance theme cluster leaders will have a panel on gender and also be discussants in all thematic discussions by preparing response papers in the following streams:
– Governance and accountability led by SADC Council of NGOs (SADC-CNGO);
– Human security led by Southern African Trade Union Coordination Council (SATUCC);
– Youth, children and people with disabilities – Southern Africa Youth Movement (SAYM);
– Climate change and natural resource management – Economic Justice Network (EJN).
Two Steering Committee sessions were convened to prepare content for these meetings and the SADC-CNGO secretariat is leading logistic arrangements. The members of the Steering Committee are SATUCC; Fellowship of Christian Councils in Southern Africa (FOCCISA), SADC-CNGO, Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance (SAGPA); Southern Africa Youth Movement (SAYM) and the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA). Participation in the Forum is open to all civil society in the SADC region and beyond. Participants are expected to meet all costs involved.
