GL Gender Justice programme and the Alliance convened a regional meeting to review National Actions Plans to end GBV. The three day meeting was held in Johannesburg, 15 – 18 February. Participants were drawn from government official representing Gender Ministries, as well as the Alliance GBV Cluster country focal points.

The objectives of the meeting were to

  • Review a concept note and draft standard regional methodology for costing of the implementation of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development for which gender based violence is a key feature.
  • To update and verify status of implementation of action plans to end gender based violence and information in SADC Gender Protocol 2010 Barometer to be used for the 2011 Barometer. Regional bodies such as SADC Gender Unit and such as UN Women (SARO) will also use the updated information.
  • To share experiences and learn from examples in the region of robust action plans those have been implemented successfully.
  • To develop strategies for reinvigorating the action plans, including the localising of such plans.
  • To share findings on the pilot project for developing GBV indicators as a tool for strengthening monitoring and evaluation of GBV action plans.

Look out for the Workshop Report in the April edition of Roadmap to Equality.
