Hukuntsi is a village in Kgalagadi District (Kalahari) in Botswana. Hukuntsi, meaning “many corners”, is named for its status as one of the four major villages in its region of the Kgalagadi Desert. It is located 114 kilometres away from the village of Kang, off the Gaborone-Ghanzi highway. It had a population of 4,654 in the 2011 census. The majority of Hukuntsi’s population are Bangologa people, a Tswana clan (List of Sotho-Tswana clans). Hukuntsi is the headquarters for the Kgalagadi North Sub-District thus it is home to the Rural Administration Centre for government offices. The village is served by Hukuntsi Airport. Weather in Hukuntsi varies dramatically very cold nights in the winter and very hot days in the summer. Beware of August winds.

Hukuntsi Sub District Council gender champion is Councilor A Leshope and Gender Focal person is Ms. Atamelang Magana, There is a functional gender committee. The Council Has organized a gender policy plan, which presently exist, but it is not yet published to the council. There are 8 males and 2 females councilors and the Mayor is male The Deputy Mayor is female.

The Council has committees There are young women, men, youth and PWD who participate in different meetings. Women participate 51%-75% in public consultations. These includes in public meetings. There are 42 females and 28 males on the committees and none of Women chairs them.

The council through local development provides a new market place. AdditionallyThere is a poverty eradication programme that assists men, women and youth with training and a grant on different entrepreneurship packages in order to improve their livelihoods.

Women, men PWD and youth are included. The total number of water and sanitation is 70. Moreover, there are 24 council beneficiaries supplying bread to primary schools, 3 hair cutting beneficiaries, 20 beneficiaries involved in sewing school uniform, 6 saloon businesses and 11 catering business services.

Under climate, change and sustainable people with disabilities and youth are equally involved in projects that prevent climate change such as waste management sustainable energy and recycling and benefit from economic opportunity arising from this. There are motivational talks held on Mondays where health issues SRHR issues are discussed.

The S & CD office offers counselling to victims of GBV and refers them to the police and women shelters.
