Moshupa is a large village in the Southern District of Botswana with a population of 20016. Moshupa Sub District was established in 2006 as one of Southern District Council’s four sub districts. It is the third sub district to be established, after Mabutsane and Good Hope. The administration offices for the sub district are based in Moshupa, the second largest village in the Southern district.
The council has put in place a number of gender-related policies to guide its work. The district council consist of 11 male councillors and 2 female councillors. The council aims to expand its percentage of female councillors from 15%. The Mayor, as well as the Deputy Mayor of the council are males.
The council is made up of 19 committees, one of which is chaired by woman. There are more men employed than women in their Workforce of the council.
Young people, people living with disabilities (PWD) and community members participate in community-based planning projects and meetings. Between 26 and 50 percent, women participate in public consultations.
The total workforce of the council employees consist of 39 percent women, 42 percent youth and 51 percent people with disabilities. Women are only 7 of management. The accounting and revenue officers are women. A major progress has been made in relation to the male to female ratio in the Moshupa Sub District Council employment basis, not only are women employed at high rate within the council. Women are also holding managerial posts within the council which makes them accessible to decision making platforms. Recruitment of people living with disability is also a critical aspect that has been catered for under the selection and recruitment process
There are provisions for maternity leave but none for paternity leave. The council does have a sexual harassment policy. Cases related to Sexual harassment, When an officer lodges a sexual harassment case, they first open it at their direct supervisor who in turn calls the parties together in order to hear the issues at hand. a verbal wring is given but if the behaviour continues the police and higher management may be involved and this may lead to dismissal of the perpetrator.
The Moshupa Sub District Council allocates a substantial budget to gender-related projects, these amounts have increased from 2015 to 2016.

As part of the of the Council’s local economic development plan, The Moshupa Sub District Council has a 15 % preferential rate reserved for women and other disadvantaged groups aspiring to engage in entrepreneurial services. There are 119 beneficiaries benefiting from jobs created by the council, 72 women and 47 men.
Women, men, PWD, and youth are involved in the planning, there is a total number of 18 people allocated to housing by the council, of which 12 are women and 6 men.
