The Palapye Administrative Authority s location presents prospects for economic growth considering where is situated size and population as well as and historical sites it is highly endowed with natural resources with potential investment opportunities mainly based on availability of raw material such as minerals. Population is 41103.
The Council is in the Central district of Botswana. The Council has 5 committees, 3 of which are chaired by women. Women participated in council work by making decisions. There is revised and customised Palapye Admin Gender framework of Action; The Gender action plan of activity has been incorporated to the centre of excellence plan of activities through communication plan strategy. There is a more developed PAA gender committee with departmental gender Focal persons.
The council has a self-help Housing Project Initiave. Eleven women and 1 people living with disability benefited from the programme. It also provide transitional living and interim support for homeless women who are disadvantaged which is a major factor contributing towards Gender Based Violence.
Palapye Admin is in partnership with SPEDU, which is mandated to coordinate regeration of the economic status through will be to identify eligible beneficiaries. It will include income-generating activities like pottery horticulture and Tourism.
Due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, most families have left children with single women caregivers so Palapye has an activity called ‘DAY OFF’. The main objective of this activity was to create a ‘day off’ for caregivers mostly women of orphans and vulnerable children. To also give, Christmas gifts to orphans and children living with disability.
They have “Mmele oke wame with drop in a day care centre” This is a book, which allowed educators to address issues of sexuality in children in an appropriate language. The book is read at the preschool and they teach the corresponding song to go with the book. The main objective is to teach children to identify any harm if caregivers are trying to harm them that is inappropriate touches of body parts.

The council commemorate 16 days of activism against women and children. To commemorate in solidarity with those who have experienced GIVE and to make public awareness on issues of Gender based violence. They have IN HER SHOES activity to adopt the real life story of a woman who was a victim of GBV and walk in her shoes.it focuses on the story that focuses on the story that details the sexual abuse a young girl faced at school how it can be noticed reported and prevented at school. They also have the football tournament that was specifically targeting young men as they often left out of other community interventions. It was in collaboration with BONELA and local NGO and named ‘RE A KAMPA’. The participants were given purple ribbons and pledged their support towards ending GBV.
For sustainability, Gender work in Local Authority is supported by the already funded programmes and projects all that is left is to develop internal policies as well as pass deliberate decisions taking gender into account. Palapye has a very comprehensive relationship or collaborations with stalkeholders mandated to drive gender issues such as BONELA, Botswana Police, Local NGOs, SPEDU, Ministry of Health.
