Chilanga district council was a constituency under Kafue district Council and it was declared as a district by His Excellence the President of Republic of Zambia Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, pursuant to the Provincial and District Act Cup 286 of the laws of Zambia in 2012 vide statutory no. 22 of 2012.The district shares its boundaries with Kafue on its south and east, Mumbwa from the west, Lusaka on the north and chibombo on the north western side. The district lies just about 15 Km south of the greater city of Lusaka.
Chilanga district is located in the western and southern part of Lusaka central business. The district has six (6) wards namely: Chilanga, Chilongolo, Nyemba, Namalombwe, Nakachenje and Chinyanja in western side. The district has a total population of 107,051 as at national census with 53,863 being male and 53,188 being female. The district equally recorded the total of 21,260 households. In percentage terms, the district is male dominated with a population of 50.3% compared to 49.7% female.
The district has progressed and service delivery has become more efficient. Local communities at ward level (under Kafue District) never used to be incorporated in decision making and never used to receive services such as water and sanitation, roads, community sensitization of Gender Based Violence, recognition of squatter compounds etc. are now being taken care of by Chilanga District Council.
Evidence of Change includes formation of Ward Development Committees, Water Committees, Keep Chilanga Clean Committees at District and ward Level, formation of 2014 budget. Local authorities engage the communities in its decision making processes. For example, planning and budgeting of the 2014 budget involved all communities.

Chilanga is a small beautiful place to live. It can be turned into the oasis. I like the beautiful hills on west.
