One of the mandates of council is to provide health services to the inhabitants of the district. It is within the legal frame of the health Act that people should get primary health care within a 10km radius. Zvimba Rural District council has 35 wards, 14 in the communal areas, 3wards in townships and the rest (18 wards) in the resettlement areas. Due to the advent of the land reform program many people moved to the resettlement area. In these areas there were few clinics which catered for the former farm workers. For instance in Zvimba North Constituency with more than two wards and a population of more than10 000, had only two clinics. People had to walk (the transport system in the farms is not very reliable) for more than 20km to the nearest health facility. With such a scenario of health facilities council then embarked on a drive to construct and renovate old farm houses into clinics in order to alleviate the shortages of health facilities in the district. It is a good practice as the project is bringing primary health care within walking distance to the community. Post natal care becomes ease if clinics are within walking distances as well as family Care health will be available. HIV intervention programs will be carried within walking distances such as testing, counseling as well provision of HIV drugs. In Zvimba all health facilities are providing these HIV intervention programs. Currently council has 18 clinics.
