Commuter omnibus ranks have been turned into battlegrounds as women and girls are attacked and accused of dressing inappropriately. This has been a common occurrence, which thus has been normalised by society. This form of abuse mainly common at commuter bus terminals has seen many women and girls being humiliated and stripped naked in public. The theme of the story, relates to the story in that it highlights this form of humiliation which women and girls are suffering in Zimbabwe in the hands of touts and rank marshals. But the story hinges on the extent of gender based violence in the country, through providing statistics from pressure groups and police. These figures relates well to the theme in highlighting the scope of gender based violence especially perpetuated against women and girls. The article therefore include voices even from men’s organisations who are working together with other stakeholders to combat gender based violence in the country. Their voice was critical, as it highlights the contribution of men in fighting gender based violence in the Zimbabwe. The story highlights a form of violence rarely documented in the media and highlighting that it is a criminal offence since most of these cases are going unreported. I belief the story brings out the fact that such crimes should be reported and women should have the courage to claim their rights. having such information is important and women and girls should learn to use the law to their advantage. Gender based violence is cited as a scourge that takes different forms and shapes with women and girls being hardest hit. The story highlights the extent of the problem and what organisations are doing to combat such an ill. The article also cited the existence of laws and policies such as the Gender Based Violence policy which the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community development have not started implementing.
