It is a good practice for the following reasons:
– The Constitution of the Republic of Namibia guarantees both equality on the basis of sex and freedom from discrimination, however the prevalence of gender-based violence has increased at an alarming rate. On a daily basis, cases are reported in local newspapers and other media.
– Namibia has ratified the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peopleâ € ™s Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Although Namibia has made progress on fulfilling its obligations by adopting legislation such as the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, the rate at which women are slaughtered and murdered, increase horrifically.
– The Keetmanshoop Junior Municipal Council in collaboration with relevant stakeholders embarked on the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence from the 25th of November 2013 until the 10th of December 2013 to get all facets of the community involved in the quest against Gender Base Violence in Namibia.

FROM PEACE IN THE HOME-TO PEACE IN THE WORLD-
Preventing and responding to gender base violence is cornerstone of the GAME CHANGERâ € ™S commitment to advancing gender equality as such violence hinders the ability of individuals to fully participate in and contribute to their families and communities-economically-politically and socially.
The GAME CHANGERS is a group of three young, interllectual and visionary grade 11-12 junior councillors that are keen on launching campaigns against gender base violence from all different spheres of life. As ambassadors of change , our main focus will be the interest of the GIRL CHILD, we are the hope that every Namibian girl needs, and the time is now for us to act and raise our voices to make sure that the voiceless will be heard.
It is for too long a time that we have been silent, while our women have become objects of abuse and rampant killings. As young people we are happy that the highest office in the country urged the masses to pray in unison but it is our task to implement the measures that were highlighted by His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba.
-It is clear that we cannot be neutral and we cannot be silent when it comes to ending AIDS and Violence against women .Each and everyone of us has a role to play in creating a world where all women are able to reach their full potential in safe and equitable environment- JAN BEAGLE
