HIV and Aids continues to wear a female face, as women are usually subjected to stigma and discrimination, which is another form of violence, compared to men. This situation affects Malawi to meet the target of curbing gender violence by this year (2015), in line with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals-MDGs. Poverty, a lack of social empowerment and cultural practices are among factors that continue to subject women to gender violence. In this story I have highlighted the life of Agnes Jere, a survivor of gender based violence, who also fights to survive stigma and discrimination in the society because of the HIV status.
