Katima Mulilo Town Council as a centre of excellence embraced gender equality in its policies and programmes is about creating a fair society, where everyone can participate equally and where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Gender equality to us means giving equal freedom of choice, empowerment and participation to women and men in all sphere of public and private life.
Katima Mulilo was proclaimed in 1992 as a town council and became autonomous in the year 1999. For the past years of it existence, 8 mayors have served and out of these 8 candidates only 1 female was elected as a mayor Hon. Georgina Mwiya-Simataa of which it has not been Gender balanced bringing it to a % of 12.5. As for the Town Clerks (Chief Executive Officer) 5 served and out of these only 1 female Ms Agnes Limbo. A total of 16 residential exist in town, occupying a total of nearly 600 hectors of land. Of these, 9 suburbs (290 hectors) are formally proclaimed residential areas, 4 are upgraded informal suburbs and 6 are unplanned informal settlements.
Services- In terms of services we talk of Roads, Electricity, Water, Sewer and Refuse Removal and provision of land and providing training, educational and information to our communities
Investment- Before we only had 1 bank but now we have about 5 banks, Bank Windhoek, Standard Bank, Ned Bank, FNB & Agri-Bank.
Hospitality- Tourism attraction, accommodation, tarred roads, investments, open markets and the geographical location of Katima Mulilo town.
Governance- Different policies, employment creation, Council structure from a number of employees of about 56 to 106 permanent employees.
Health- 1 state hospital and 4 clinics in different suburbs.
Education- We have about 4 primary schools, 4 secondary schools, 3 private schools, 1 combined school and a number of pre-schools. In terms of tertiary, we have the University of Namibia, Polytechnic of Namibia and the ZVTC
Safety & Security- 1 main police station and 3 suburbs satellite police stations.
A number of investment opportunities are available in town and not this include but not limited to, the following:
– Laundry and dry cleaning services
– Restaurants and 24 hours take away facilities
– Gym and other recreational facilities
– Travel and hospitality development e.g. car hire, accommodation, conference facilities, cinemas, private hospital
– Manufacturing of various kinds of products for both regional and local markets.
– This is possible due to the abundance virgin land, fresh water and power supply.
– Orchard development and juice production
