The Kgatleng District council is still dominated by male leadership especially at political leadership. Not many women stand for elections at the council, however those who actually do, loose during the primary elections. In the 2009 general elections, all women who stood for elections lost, therefore there were only two women who got in through special nomination. In the 2014 general elections, 14 women stood for elections, and only two made it through, therefore currently, there are three female councillors, the third being a specially nominated councillor. This is a slight improvement from the last general elections (2014). In the council management, there is a significant improvement in the number of female HODs. There is approximately an equal number of male and female HODs
