Kanana council is located in the rural area of Berea district. It joined the COE process in 2012.
The council has gender action plan, it is and following through and still in place as to make sure that gender is mainstream through its work. The council has 14 members of which 57% are women. The council is chaired by a woman and within the three committees that council has two are chaired by a women.
Projects running within the Council are mostly if not all women orientated and 76%-100% of women participate in all the public meetings and are part of any decisions taken. The fact that there are more women councillors has an advantage to all women around council as they work hard to see there are more vocal.
Of the total workforce, the council has 88% women, which 60% are youth, 8% people living with the disabilities and 20% middle aged women. The council secretary is a women and she is an overseer of the council. The accounts clerks and physical planners are women.
The council provides the three months maternity leave and nursing hours for three months after the maternity leave. Also as provided for in the Labour Code of Lesotho all staff members are awarded leave on issues of health as well as compassionate leave to attend the funeral of close relatives.
The council works in line with the sexual harassment Act of 2000, but most of the time if issues arises are referred to the police station for further investigations. The council is accessible to people and people living with the disability as there trails of wheelchairs on entrance.

The council has allocated space at the council for people living with the disability so that can they bring services near people, more 50% people are benefiting from this office at the council.
The council has worked with the Humanity for Habitat to teach women about rights on the land and at least 35% women applied for land and leases.
Both women and disadvantaged groups form part of the community therefore resources are distributed equally amongst and almost 167 people from jobs created by the council of which 87 are women. Everyone who has a skill or company or other resources to maintain their living is prioritised and is too be awarded jobs equally.
