Seate community council is found in Mapholaneng in the Mokhotlong district, and joined COE process in June 2013

The council does have the gender policy and action plan and has taken initiative to educate the community and schools about gender issues. There are 29 members of the councillor; 10 women and 19 men. This is one council that has so many members and work together as one team.

Within the committees that council have two committees which are land and social services are led by women. Women, youth and people living the disability voice out their opinions through their respective councillors who represent them in the council’s decision making. Also women and youth engaged in the council’s cleaning campaign.

The overall council staff is 15; nine women and six men, in management they are four and three are women.

There is a provision of three months maternity leave and nursing hours for another three months after the maternity. The council does not have sexually harassment policy, but cases are reported at the police station. The council situated in a place where is accessible to everybody and facilities catered for disability people. Men and women are given an equal treatment and opportunities at work, e.g. We have both male and female toilets, male and female are given an equal chance of employment in the council’s projects.

The council has made arrangements in a form of proposal to local companies such as Letsheng Diamonds to assist entrepreneur’s with finances to grow their businesses. The council has also selected a place at the busiest bus as a market place for entrepreneurs. It has also planned to allocate 70% of the funds towards empowerment of women and other disadvantaged groups. The council is planning to give women, PDW and youth first priority to increase their numbers in those benefiting from jobs created by the council.

Women, youth and PWD are engaged in several projects to prevent climate change like practising conservative agriculture, waste management and planting of trees.

The council in collaboration with local NGOs educate the community and youth in schools about SRHR through public gatherings, school visits, fun walks and many other forms. Also people all have equal access to treatment. As a measure of prevention and raising awareness, the council works with local NGOs and the CGPU to educate the community on gender based violence and early child marriage, and the importance of preventing those. The council goes further to work with all relevant stakeholders to organise meetings for affected people to support, motivate and empower them with entrepreneurial skills and sharing of their stories.
