The Marondera Rural District Council (RDC) is situated in Mashonaland east province of Zimbabwe.
The council has six committees. Of the 23 councillors, 2 are women. There is also a Marondera RDC junior council. The youth, women and people with disabilities (PWD) actively contribute to council activities both in executive and policy making positions evidenced by management minutes and social services committee which is chaired by a woman councillor.
Of the total workforce, the council employs 36 percent women, and no youth or people with disabilities. Women are only 2 of management. The accounting and revenue officers are women. The Council amended the recruitment, selection and promotion policies to increase the proportion of women in the workforce.
The council is also focusing on implementing its construction plans for schools and other public institutions are approved on the basis of being disability friendly. Land allocation to women for is another priority for the council. On the 2nd of February 2016 council allocated 270 housing stands to Landos Kubatana housing cooperative, 135 were allocated to men and 135 to women.
The council does not have a sexual harassment policy and is guided by the Labour Act and the Code of Conduct. The council does not have a climate change policy; plans are underway to come up with a specific policy on climate change, however the council has bylaws and uses the relevant Acts as guidelines on climate change and its impact women, youth and PWD.
