Rusape Town Council has been actively involved in mainstreaming gender in all Council activities. The Council has adopted the Gender links activities at its 265th regular Full Council Meeting. The Council endeavours to promote equal representation of women and men in all institutions and spheres of life. The Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Women ’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development and our sister local authority Makoni Rural District Council have managed to conduct a number of community awareness campaigns. Since joining the COE programme the Council has developed an interest in ensuring that all employees regardless of being male or female are given equal conditions and opportunities for realising their full human rights and the potential to contribute to national, economic, social and cultural development and to benefit from the results.

Rusape Town Council now has a Gender Committee which comprises of the Town Treasurer, the Committee Officer, the Housing Officer and the Acting Community Services Officer. A Gender Policy is now in place.
