Ruwa Town striving to champion the Gender agenda

Ruwa is an urban Local Authority in Zimbabwe which is situate 25kilometres to the east of Harare the capital city of Zimbabwe. It is in the Harare Metro Politan Province which has three other local authorities namely ;Harare, Chitungwiza and Epworth. The town is in natural region two where most of its industrial activities are agro based which processes among other things : Milling ,Tomato drying , seed processing, animal feeds and irrigation implements companies . The council became a centre of excellence in the year 2011.
It has come a long way in gender mainstreaming issues and trying to change things around though a lot still needs to be done. The council in response to the call for gender equity has been able to build a Polyclinic offering anti and post natal services , counselling and treatment as well as the construction of Educational institutions and grant permits to private actors to assist in the health delivery systems which has witnessed by a number of surgeries being opened up in the town. Other actors have also been given permits to operate crèches and preschools for child care programmes.
The Biggest step which the council has taken in 2014 was to set up and operationalize a Junior council to allow school going students and the youth to participate in civic issues that is, catching them young.
