To join the Alliance, a village must meet a list of Criteria designed to turn it into a “safe space ” where everyone is committed to eradicating SGBV. The community must take full ownership of the project; TVEP will only provide technical support through a Stakeholder Forum elected by the villagers. At least 1,200 people have to complete TVEP ’s 4-day thematic workshops , and a Safe House must be established. Once all the Criteria are met, the Village is accepted into the Alliance at a public ceremony. Led by their Chief, and in front of a Magistrate and the entire village, men pledge not to tolerate abuse in their community; people witnessing this will realize they can safely report. The men are then given a Badge of Honour, and sign a Roll of Honour which remains in the community. If they later break their pledge, they are shamed by being struck off the Roll.
