At the time I was writing a story about gender based violence with the title â € œUkatili wa kijinsiâ € , I wrote this story because the number of older people who sodomise children, both boys and girls, is increasing in Zanzibar today. Even though the Zanzibar government tries its best to make sure that all evil persons are charged, it is still cumbersome in one way or another. The increasing incidence of rape and sodomising affects the children and women of Zanzibar as well as policy makers and so forth, even though there is a law the situation is not good for women and children.
Although there is a special centre which is known as the â € œOne Stop Centreâ € it does not stop the raping and sodomy, especially of children under ten years old, some of the children who are affected by these issues get good treatment while others do not.
From my side it seems good to write this story, because I was trying to explain and show the effects caused by the raping and sodomising of children as well as gender based violence. It was not only that, but also to educate the society to be much more careful and to prevent it in order to avoid any type of trap which leads children to be raped or sodomised.
As media personnel, I have the responsibility to educate and inform society in order to keep peace and security, as well as to take care of their children. For instance, for those families who are affected by this, first of all there is no need to clean them, but the best way is to bring him/her to the One Stop Centre in order to get a medical check-up and a letter to open the case against the suspect.
