Climate change affects livelihoods and has huge impact on food security and the brunt rests heavily on women and children. It is based on this realization that Umsimisi Community Project implements this highly cost effective, easy to manage gardening concept “Raised Beds & Bucket Drip System ” –yet to be rolled out to a number of communities across Swaziland. This is anticipated to go a long way in addressing other social ills that affect livelihoods due to the impact of poverty and food insecurity. The concepts very little water with high yield; suitable for poor families/communities; it uses organic manure and materials found within the community. The drip bucket used to water the garden can be filled twice a day and left to drip on its own saving time for farmers to attend to other duties/chores without spending much time watering. This has a life span of five years of good yield with variety of crops/vegetables planted; environmentally friendly and self sustainable without relying on donor funding.
