A documentary about women, for women and uniquely produced, edited, directed, shot and edited by women.
March 8th every year marks a very special day for all women around the world. It ’s International Women ’s Day. Thousands of Organizations around the globe have events on this specific day to celebrate the phenomenal woman. This special Day marks the growth and achievements women politically, economically and socially.
This year ’s International women ’s day theme was ‘Make it Happen ’.
As Swaziland Television Authority we didn ’t want to be left out of this glorious international celebration of women. Therefore we produced a documentary that would highlight the strong qualities of a woman, titled ‘W.O.M.A.N ’
A great woman once said “The story of a womans ’ struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights. ” Gloria Steinam
This saying from the greatest motivator for woman, Gloria Steinam and the 2015 International Women ’s Day theme ‘Make it happen ’ our Documentary W.O.M.A.N was produced, scripted, shot, edited and broadcast with both the quote and theme in mind.
We took the word WOMAN and used it as an acronym (W.O.M.A.N) and identified five different words that resembled a phenomenal woman. With those five words we identified five women who have made/ making an enormous impact in our society who articulate that term.
W- Wise (Make Stella Lukhele)- Former Paliamentaian and now the Director and Author for ‘Fudzisa Umtfane ’(Teach a child)
When you list the attributes of a wise woman what stands out is the ability to fuse teachings from the parallel backgrounds and cultures to develop a working method that sees her making informed decisions at every stage of her life.
O- Outstanding ( Ms Fanele)- Founder of the Knowledge Institute
Everybody has a dream but not everyone has the guts to pursue it. Everybody wants to be outstanding but no one is willing to stand up and be counted as a world changer
M- Multi Tasker (Nelisiwe Mabuza- CEO of African Alliance and member of numerous boards
A Jack of all trades explains the spheres of a woman very clearly. At the break of dawn she is a mother, a dotting wife. When the sun rises, she must quickly morph into the no nonsense career woman in the boardroom.
A-Ambitious (Make Celiwe Malinga)- Resilient Warrior Author
Ambition is about setting a goal for you, aiming and reaching out for that goal regardless of circumstances, never letting anything stand between you and your goal. It is in this fighting spirit that sets apart the man from the boys. Being ambitious means not getting intimidated by the next person ’s success.
N-Nurturing (Make Mhlophe Mhlanga)- Founder of Mahlanya Care-point
Make Mhlophe Mhlanga gave up all the traps and trimmings of a professional life to dedicate herself to a life of serving to the needy. She left no stone un-turned until she made sure all orphaned children in her community had the basic need of life.
