In terms of the council’s gender policy, sensitizations has been conducted both at community level and partner organization. The council has 19 councillors and all of them are women. The deputy mayor of the council is a female.
Men chair all of the three committees that are available within the council. There is a Junior Council and there is an equal number of girls and boys. The council is trying to ensure gender equality amongst its members.
The council normally involve the youth/PWD through debates were a topic done chosen and the community ask questions. During youth day celebration, many activities are done and on women’s day celebration, all women participate. Between 76 and 100% women participate on women’s day.
The council has employed 53 women. The council has five women in its management positions. Women chair all Finance bank, judiciary, auditor, district accountant, chief administrative officer, and social economic planner.
There are provisions for maternity and paternity leave. The council has a policy against sexual harassment. If any cases pertaining sexual harassment are reported, they are being reported to the police. The council is disability friendly in that the buildings have provided for slant step to allow the disabilities have access in the building.
Katete Council has allocated budget for promoting gender related projects, from 2015 and 2016.

In accordance with the economic development plan, 50% of the market stands are located to women and youths. This will help enhance the country’s economy and sustain the lives of the residents economically and socially.
The council is aware of climate change and it is using the National environmental policy and continuous sensitizations are done with the local radio station where both youth and women participate in these forums.
