Chegutu Municipality is situated in the Mashonaland West region of Zimbabwe. The council is synonymous for initiating response mechanisms to gender-based violence in which they reclaimed grassy areas which had been a haven for criminal activity and Gender-Based Violence. Chegutu Municipality has a Gender Policy that is reviewed periodically. The council has 12 councillors (9 male councillors and 3 female). Chegutu Municipality has 4 committees, and 2 are chaired by women. The council Mayor and Deputy Mayor are both males. Council has a junior council through which young people participate and air their concerns. The junior council is composed of more girls than boys and the mayor is female.
In Chegutu council works with stakeholders who work with the various groups of people including, women, youth and people with disability. These groups usually participate in various foras including Full Council, Ward Consultation and Youth Council meetings. Between 25 and 50 percent, women participate in these consultations and public meetings.
Chegutu Municipality has a total workforce of 273, of whom 66 are women. In terms of decision making at managerial level women account for only 7 of the 25 managers. The Director of Health, Housing and Community Services and Systems Administrator are some of the women employed in non-traditional jobs in council.
Zimbabwe by law prescribes for 3 months paid maternity leave thus Chegutu Municipality provisions for it. Chegutu Municipality is one of a few councils with provisions for paternity leave of 1 month. The council has a sexual harassment policy which outlines the guidelines for addressing sexual harassment in the workplace. The council has ensured Disability-friendly access through constructing ramps at the main council entrance and other doors, in the toilets and other areas to ensure ease of access for people with disability.
Chegutu Municipality allocates a substantial budget to gender-related projects, these amounts have in most cases remained constant between 2016 to 2017.

Chegutu Municipality is active in the area of climate change that has seen the council respond to climate change by installing Solar powered traffic lights, solar-powered piped water scheme. There are also community based organizations involved in waste management and re-cycling projects.
